Soundside Savage Rules & Regulations

Official Rules 

  1. The Fly: Every participant will receive exactly one custom fly made from household items/trash. If you lose your fly, your tournament fishing is over for the day. 

  2. Check-In & Fly Pickup: Flies must be picked up between 5:00 AM and 6:00 AM on September 19th at [Location to Be Determined].

  3. Format & Territory: This is a decentralized, wading-only tournament. No boats, kayaks, or SUPs allowed. Only sound side fishing is permitted. Anglers are free to choose their own dispersed spots anywhere on the Outer Banks.

  4. Permits & Regulations: All participants must possess a valid NC Coastal Recreational Fishing License (CRFL). If accessing sound side beaches via vehicle within the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, anglers are individually responsible for obtaining and displaying a valid NPS ORV permit.

  5. Wildlife Conservation: Anglers must strictly adhere to all posted National Park Service resource protection and wildlife closure zones.

  6. Town/City/Local Ordinances: Anglers must strictly adhere to all town/city/local rules and ordinances. If any are violated, you will be disqualified from the remainder of the tournament.

  7. Timing & Scoring: Fishing is from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM. To score a fish, you must submit a clear photograph of the angler holding the fish with the unique tournament fly clearly visible and hooked in the fish.

  8. Deadlines: All scoring photos must be submitted via [App/Email/Text] no later than 4:00 PM. No photos taken or submitted before 6:00 AM or after 4:00 PM will be counted.

  9. Winning & Tie-Breakers: The winner is determined by the highest total number of caught fish. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the angler who submitted the earliest time stamp on the first catch wins.

  10. Awards: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards will be presented at [Location to Be Determined] at 6pm on Saturday, September 19th.

  11. In case of cancellation due to weather, no refunds. Read Weather section below.

Weather

All anglers will fish at their own discretion and at their own risk. In the event of severe weather or unsafe conditions on September 19th, the single-day event will transition to a week-long virtual tournament. Participants will be notified via email, text, and on social media by 9:00 PM the evening prior, and updated rules, submission deadlines, and fly distribution details for the virtual format will be provided immediately. The week-long virtual tournament would be between the dates of September 20th, 2026 to September 26th, 2026.

 

Indemnity

All anglers will fish at their own risk. All anglers agree to indemnify and hold harmless all members of the Tournament Committee, Directors, Sponsors and their agents and employees from any and all liability, loss or damage they may suffer as a result of this fishing tournament.
